Back and revitalized from my trip to New York City! I was there for a couple of days last week to do some networking and to see what I could see. Wouldn’t you know what caught my eye? Shiny things! Everywhere!

Yes, sequins and sparkle, metallic and mirrors–all things glittery! Now. I know what you’re thinking. Sequins are the flashy embellishment of choice for flagrant, blingy over-doers (think Cher, Lady Gaga, roller disco queens), but the glints of sparkle that I’ve seen in recent days have taken a fresher stance and moved into the light–the daylight, that is.

Sparkle and glitz are not longer reserved for formal evenings and Halloween costumes. Why not try incorporating a sequined blazer with distressed denim, like the displayed in the window I saw at 7 For All Mankind at 5th Ave. and 15th Street:

Another item I spotted everywhere from DKNY to Free People to Betsey Johnson, was the sequined tube skirt. Here are a couple of variations on how to wear this versatile piece:

Sequins, pailettes and other embellishments don’t have to be shiny and sparkly, either. I loved this boxy tee at Forever 21 so much that I simply had to make a purchase! I’ve worn this top twice now: (1) with a black/gray printed mini, tights and heels, and (2) with skinny gray denim and knee-grazing black flat boots.

So don’t save the glimmer for the Holidays (or Vegas)! There are countless ways to incorporate some spark into your daytime wardrobe. Add accessories that complement the look (vintage leathers, flat shoes/boots, minimal jewelry). What a brilliant idea!
